Scaffolding wood
Repurposed scaffolding as homemade furniture.

Though you might want to discuss it, the trend of garden furniture with scaffold materials has most likely started in the Netherlands.
It may not be the correct to call the Dutch population cheap or greedy, but they are nevertheless people which are considered to be fairly carefull with their expenses.
So it should be no surprise that many Dutchies decide to make their own garden furniture from recycled materials.
There are always a lot of scaffolding planks which have become unusable.
Often you can find large piles of unused scaffold wood laying around on building sites.
Therefore it is no surprise that some of the construction workers decided to take some of these old planks home.
After all, after many years of use, these scaffold planks are no longer safe to walk on.
But for the do it yourself enthousiasts these scaffold planks are still perfect to work with.
As a substitute for the old and weathered planks which derive from the scaffolds, many hobbyists have now started to make the garden furniture from new wood.
This is a result of the good quality old scaffolding wood becoming scarce, due to the now very high demand.
Apart from the old and weathered scaffold planks, the scaffolding tubes can also be used to make furniture.
How can I finish my homemade scaffolding furniture?
White wash and Grey wash are common techniques for a nice finish and protection of this bench.
Try the different painting methods on a piece of leftover wood, before painting the entire bench.
Do not use a paint or varnish which builds up in layers if you use the lounge bench in your garden or outside.
The best products for scaffolding wood are water based penetrating products and wood preservation oils.
Old style paints and varnish are likely to flake and bladder off after getting exposed to the weather.
